Every ambitious roadmap I’ve seen fail had the same shape: five parallel bets, all "high priority," none sequenced against the other. It reads well in a slide and executes like chaos.
Sequencing is the actual strategy work
The interesting decision isn’t what’s on the roadmap — it’s what’s deliberately not happening this quarter so that the thing that matters most gets the whole team’s attention.
Boring roadmaps say no more often than they say yes. That’s uncomfortable in a room full of stakeholders with their own priorities. It’s also the only version that consistently ships.
