"This is our final offer" is negotiable roughly 70% of the time in my experience on both sides of the table locally — but the lever that works isn’t the one most guides recommend.
Timeline flexibility beats a competing offer
Most companies here have more room on start date and signing structure than on base number. Asking for a two-week delay to complete a competing process often gets further than a direct counter-number.
It won’t work everywhere, and it isn’t a script — but understanding what the hiring manager can actually move is worth more than any word-for-word template.

Jul 22, 2026The timeline flexibility point is something nobody told me during my own search. Wish I’d read this a year ago.

Jul 23, 2026Does this hold for BA roles too or mostly PM-track hiring?

Jul 23, 2026Seen it work for BA and data roles as well — the lever is more about the hiring manager’s process constraints than the title.
